Glossary - Glossary

Materials: Each one corresponds with the peculiarities and performance levels required for usage conditions. The choice of the best packaging is assessed in terms of shape (design - practicality - storage - linear exposure), content, and also depends on the type of contents, what it is and how long it will be kept, how it will be consumed.

PET / APET: Polyethylene Terephtalate (amorphous). Particularly transparent and high quality. Attractive crystal appearance.

PS: Polystyrene. PS can be processed by heat moulding (beakers, food trays, etc.) and also by injection (knives, forks, etc.) Much used for products to be kept chilled or frozen

PP: Polypropylene. Recommended for its barrier qualities and for its ability to be reheated in the microwave

PLA: Poly Lactic Acid. Bio compostable material (subject to temperature and humidity rate)

EPS: Expandable Polystyrene. Excellent isothermal qualities for good temperature conservation. Very lightweight material

PAPER: appreciated for its visual qualities, the quality of printing (offset, flexography or heliography processes) and its feel.

MOULDED FIBRE: Material from renewable resources: sugar cane, bamboo, wood, etc.
Thanks to their natural composition based on vegetal fibres, this packaging protects and enhances your products while at the same time contributing to the preservation of the environment.
The Din Certco certificate guarantees the biodegradability of these packing items.

-------------

Stackability: Quality of empty packaging that can be fitted one inside the other

De-nesting: Technical characteristic for certain beakers, covers, food trays, etc. that enables their easy extraction from a pile when they are stored empty. The processing of the material, anti-static processing, the quality and the precision of the shape are all elements that contribute to good packaging de-nesting. This characteristic is essential for Automatic Distribution and products that are used in automated packaging lines.

Anti-static processing: Thanks to specific processing and the addition of an anti-static agent into the matter or on the outer surfaces of the packing, the attraction, or revulsion between packaging is greatly decreased.

Anti-blocking processing: To avoid PET packaging remaining stuck together, silicon is added onto or into the material

Piling steps: A shape studied for easier extraction of empty packaging items from each other.

Racking: Action of piling filled packaging, which are therefore closed (end products) in a stable manner (required racking potential)

Required racking potential: Optimised packaging shape (base + cover) to ensure stability when the packaging is racked in a pile, dispenser or chiller cabinet. Positive / negative shape that fits together perfectly.

Opening tab: Handling area that enables the easy opening and extraction of packaging items.

Rolled collar: rolled border at the top of beakers for user comfort during usage

Inverted lid: Lid that inserts within the container and is held in place by the same. This system enables secured packaging closure.

Clip lid: Lid that covers the container and clips onto the outer border. This system enables the protection of the entire container, edges included, thus ensuring total hygiene.

Embossing: Packaging customisation operation involving the embossing of a motif during heat moulding, thanks to an engraving in the die (positive = in relief / negative = recessed)
Technique also used for crimping paper.

Offset printing: Printing technology on thermoformed or injection moulded plastic. Hatched or line decoration. Use of alimentary inks, environmentally friendly... in compliance with the use the packaging is to be put to.
Offset laser printing: Laser printing technique (cylinder engraving) for highly refined marking

Flexography printing: Technique used on cardboard, paper and polyethylene film. Four colour or direct tone printing. Recommended for packing products that will be heated or re-heated. Type of ink in compliance with the use the packaging is to be put to.

Sanding: Mould surface treatment (all or part) enabling a frosted finish to be achieved.

-----------

Smoothie: A mixed drink based on fruits or fruit pulp, appreciated for its natural taste and velvet texture.

Cosmeto-food: Category of foodstuffs that vaunts its positive effect on consumer beauty and shape.

Ethnic food: Foodstuffs, worldwide dishes

Shot: Packaging for one measure (a shot of fruits = food product presented in the form of a measure satisfying the daily requirements in fruit, as recommended by nutritionists)

NHNP: National Health and Nutrition Plan
